First meeting for 2012-2013 season

Representatives from the various clubs and Country cricket met on Monday  27th August at Weedons.

The following season dates were agreed to.

Section 1:  October 20th - December 15th; February 2nd  – March 23rd
Section 2:  October 27th - December 15th; February 2nd  – March 23rd
Section 3:  November 3rd - December 15th; February 2nd  – March 9th
Section 4:  November 3rd - December 15th; February 2nd  – March 9th

After several years of service Liz Carston is stepping down as the draw coordinator. We need a volunteer to take over this position for the season.

We also need grade coordinators for Sections 2, 3, 4. These people will collect results from games on a weekend and deal with any disputes/clarifications that arise. We need volunteers for these positions as well.

Could you inform me of the teams that your club is entering by 30th September (Section 1 and 2) and October 19th (Section 3 and 4).

Sections format:
Sections 2-4 will remain as they were last season.
Section 1 will shift to 30 over matches and retain the 9 aside teams. In order to get the extra overs in we are recommending that the innings be completed in about 1 ¾ hours. Rounds for Section one will be separate competitions before and after the Christmas break.

Rule change:
Keepers that stand up to the stumps in Sections 1 and 2 will have to wear a helmet or other face protection.

The season will remain over the summer rather than for a calendar year. Year 9s beginning high school are allowed to continue playing in section 1 until the end of that summer. Clubs should encourage Year 9s to join the clubs offering youth cricket in the area (Lions and Weedons at this stage).

Clubs are encouraged to up skill their coaches. Michael Sheat will send out information about courses and he and James Watson are available to come to occasional practices to provide advice. Visits to schools by Michael, James and their team are beginning in early September. There are at least 7 Have a Go centres in the south area this season.
